Matt & Pam - Engagement on Ice

Pam really loves Christmas, so what better way for Matt to propose than at Rockefeller center under the Christmas tree?

Guys, if you'd like to propose at the Rockefeller Center ice rink - visit the Rink at Rockefeller Center and click on "Engagement on Ice"

ABMB 2008 - Part 6 - Beyonce and Jay Z

Music mega-couple Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z stopped by Art Basel Miami Beach, perhaps looking for some art to compliment their thirteen combined Grammy Awards.

ABMB 2008 - Part 5 - Art Positions Lounge

Down at Art Positions, Federico Diaz created a stunning lounge area out of polystyrene and black rubber tubes to represent "vibrations and radio frequencies." No surprise as Diaz's collaborators are from Art Radio International and PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York.

ABMB 2008 - Part 4 - VIP's

When the VIP's arrive at an art fair, everyone takes notice. Art Basel Miami Beach 2008 was no exception. Amongst the luminaries were artist Takashi Murakami, Oscar winner Faye Dunaway, Emmy Award winner Armand Assante, Grammy Award winning singer Shakira, and a visitor from "far far away"...

Art Basel Miami Beach 2008 - Part 3 - Naomi Campbell

Over at Art Photo Expo Miami, there was a Naomi Campbell "retrospective" featuring 50 works spanning Ms. Campbell's career. Naomi herself was on hand along with Mayor of Miami Manny Diaz to cut the ribbon on the opening.

Art Basel Miami Beach 2008 - Part 2 - Art on the Beach

A few blocks from Art Basel, on the beach near the Sagamore Hotel, Swiss artist Olaf Breuning (with help from some locals) created a 150 ton sand sculpture of a "reclining woman":

Also nearby, amongst the tops of the palm trees, were Tadashi Kawamata's "Tree Huts"

Art Basel Miami Beach 2008 - Part 1

I had the pleasure of going to Art Basel Miami Beach on assignment for The Art Newspaper last week. I will be posting a series of photos from my week at the Art Basel as well as the "satellite" art fairs in Miami. Come back and see the celebrities, the artwork, and much more.

To begin, the view from the second floor of the convention center - the "London House" sign appealed to me.

The sheer size of the fair itself is impressive. Here is a shot of the convention center floor on the day of set-up:

The sign says it all:

That is all for now. More photos to come soon!

Nate & Kate

How many weddings do you get to photograph where there is a swordfight? Not many...

Before & After the Wedding - Free Photo Shoots - EXTENDED DEADLINE!

In troubling economic times, everyone is looking for ways to cut back on expenses. Unfortunately, many couples getting married are forced to choose to cut back on their wedding photography. Casey Fatchett Photography is introducing it's own wedding photography "stimulus" package to help out! We will be offering 10 free photo shoots to couples - and we are extending the deadline until December 20th! Details below:

The Before
We will be selecting 5 couples for free one hour engagement photo sessions ($400 value). Couples will receive high resolution digital copies of all their photos on CD as well as an online gallery of all their photos for 3 months following the shoot. Submit information via email with the words "Before the Wedding Shoots" in the subject line

To be considered, couples must submit the following information:
1. Their names
2. Contact information (phone, email - best time to be contacted)
3. Their intended wedding date (only couples getting married before December 2010 will be considered)
4. A short description of how they met.
5. Two to three of their favorite New York locations (can be spots that only you think are great)
6. Their favorite "fun" or "crazy" things to do in New York (e.g. walking your dog, going to the park/museum, surfing, etc, etc - you get the idea!)
7. A photo of themselves (no larger than 100kb - JPG format)

The After
"Day After" wedding photography shoots are gaining in popularity lately because they allow the couple to relax and have their photos taken without the pressure of the wedding day. Many couples don't realize that their wedding photos don't have to be taken on the actual day after the wedding. Shoots like this are usually scheduled within two months of the wedding, whenever it is convenient for the couple. We will select five couples who've recently married (within the last 6 months) for a two hour photo shoot ($750 value). Couples will receive high resolution digital copies of all their photos on CD as well as an online gallery of all their photos for 3 months following the shoot. Submit information to via email with the words "After the Wedding Shoots" in the subject line

To be considered, couples must submit the following information:
1. Their names
2. Contact information (phone, email - best time to be contacted)
3. Their wedding date (only couples married in the last 6 months will be considered)
4. A short description of how they met.
5. Two to three of their favorite New York locations (can be spots that only you think are great)
6. Their favorite "fun" or "crazy" things to do in New York (e.g. ice skating at Rockefeller Center, biking the Brooklyn Bridge, etc!)
7. A photo of themselves from their wedding - preferably full length including the wedding gown (no larger than 100kb - JPG format)
8. Very important - whether or not they have the wedding dress / tuxedo / suit available for the shoot.

Remember, the deadline is November 30th - so submit as soon as you can!

Proposal Photography - Magazine Articles

Earlier this year I had the privilege to contribute photographs and my knowledge of proposal photography to articles for Professional Photographer's of America (PPA) and Maclean's magazines.

Remember guys, if you really want to score major points with your intended fiance - show her that you wanted to remember the look on her face when you asked her to marry you!

Wedding Trends - Photo Slideshows at the Reception

While the practice of showing slides during a wedding reception has been going on for many years, these photos were limited to photos from the couples childhood and perhaps while they were dating. Recently, with advances and digital photography and the availability of larger LCD screens, there has been a new trend - displaying photos from the wedding and reception as the reception is happening!

Since the wedding photographer usually took the couple's engagement photos, this is usually where the slideshow begins. Then you and your guests get to see photos from the ceremony itself, the portrait session, and then the reception itself. Talk about instant gratification!

Depending on your personal taste, the photos can be displayed in an area off to the side from the main action so that it does not draw away from the first dance, toasts, etc. - or the photos can be prominently shown off using a projector. Photos can be shown during the cocktail hour or start along with the reception. This service will require a designated "producer" who edits and arranges the photos as they come in from the photographer(s) shooting the event.

Your photos become part of the actual wedding day experience. Instead of waiting weeks or months to see those unseen moments, you get to see them hours after they happen (or less).

Ask your photographer whether they offer this service. If you would like to talk to me about this topic or ask any questions, feel free to contact me or visit my website at www.fatchett.com/weddings

Wedding Tips - DVD Proofs

Have you ever had a friend or a relative show you the proofs from their wedding? Going through hundreds of prints, whether they are in an album or carried loosely in a box, can be a daunting task.

One way to save time and a potential headache is to have your proofs placed on a DVD by your photographer. This is not a set of high-resolution images which can be used for printing but rather a DVD of proof images that actually plays on any DVD player.

You can quickly go through your proofs without having to pass the photos or an album around between the gathered friends or family members. And instead of having to haul around hundreds and hundreds of pictures all you have to bring is your disc - you can also have extra copies made for your parents so you no longer have to worry about getting the actual prints back when choosing photos for albums or re-prints.

Ask your photographer if they offer this service. If you would like to learn more, please feel free to contact me or visit my website at www.fatchett.com/weddings

Wedding Trends - Adding Your Photographer to the Registry

Most brides spend many hours deciding what to add to their registry - from plates to crystal to linens. Recently, more brides are starting to add their wedding photographer (as well as other vendors) to their registry.

Whether to add more coverage, increase the number of prints they receive, or upgrade their album, these brides view their photos as the most important way to remember their wedding day.

Fatchett Photography is proud to offer a free registry service for any couple interested in adding wedding photography to their registry.
